Abia State Government will no longer sponsor NPFL club Abia Warriors, who will now be owned by a consortium of businessmen.
According to Scorenigeria.com.ng, relegated Remo Stars plan to buy the Abia Warriors.
It was scooped in Umuahia that amidst the integrity stance of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, which forbids state governments sponsoring two Premier League clubs, Enyimba sister club Abia Warriors have quickly moved in to toe the path of full professionalism by privatizing the club.
“Abia Warriors have been pulled out of government ownership and control”, an official informed Scorenigeria.com.ng
“The club is now owned by a board of directors, I think about six members with different amount of shares.
“The state government has some shares but not big enough to give it controlling power.
“I think the Abia State government has about 20-25 per cent shareholding, this way, they cannot assume ownership of the club any more as they are now owned and funded by the board.
“Even the League Management Company (LMC) is aware of this latest development.”
