CD Feirense of Portugal goalkeeper, Sunday Dele Alampasu has been rated a very big doubt for a spot in Nigeria’s squad to this year’s World Cup, sequel to his lack of playing time with his second division club in the Iberian nation.
The UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and best keeper has not played a league game in Portugal since April 30, 2017, when he went the full ninety in Cesarense’s 3-0 loss at Águeda, such that he has lost his reckoning in the Eagles’ pecking order.
With that in view, Eagles coach, Gernot Rophr has strongly hinted that Alampasu will not be included on the 23-man roster for the 2018 World Cup.
The Franco-German tactician argued that Alampasu is inactive at his Portuguese club, and added that another option, Dele Ajiboye has not been selected in the latest squad because he was given the chance to displace Ikechukwu Ezenwa at the African Nations Championship but could not do it.
Rohr stated: ”They had already their chance, remember that we invited Dele [Ajiboye]. Dele is no. 2 in CHAN team and it’d be surprising that he is no. 1 and Ezenwa no. 2 in the Super Eagles.
”Alampasu, unfortunately, is never playing. You cannot take a goalkeeper who is never playing. Ezenwa was injured but he is returning gradually and he’s played with the second team at his club already. We’ll see who will be the fittest.”
