Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Olarewaju Kayode is presently not in Austria according to the Sporting Director of his Austrian club Austria Wien as he is in talks with a team over his possible transfer from the club.
Franz Wohlfart revealed the 24 year old is closing in on a move away from the club, but didn’t mention his possible destination, but reported earlier, English Premiership side Watford and Newcastle United have both sounded out the striker.
Kayode finished as top scorer in Austria, and was subsequently voted the best player in the country last season, a form which leads to talks of a move away from the club to a team in a competitive league higher than that of Austria.
In the last 48 hours Newcastle United have moved slightly ahead of Watford in the race for the forward, but the one issue still holding the official confirmation of the deal is the issue of work permit.
The former Nigeria U17 and 20 striker is not eligible for a work permit going by the conventional rules, hence Newcastle United want to be sure he will be granted one via other means before they proceed with the next step in their bid to sign him.
Known for his pace, power and goal scoring abilities, teams from Turkish, Spain and Germany are waiting in the wings to snap him up if the Home Office in England rules against a work permits for the Nigerian senior national team forward.
