Balogun Says Nigerians Have Been Too Loving

Super Eagles and FSV Mainz of Germany defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun is excited about the love Nigerian football fans showed him during the all-important Word Cup qualifier matches against Cameroon in Uyo and Yaoundé.

The defence trojan said in Abuja, that he is out of words for the love and support he received from Nigerians both home and in the Diaspora.

Balogun, who was in action for Mainz over the weekend when they beat Bayern Leverkusen 3-1 in the German Bundesliga said:

“Honestly, I must tell you I am lost for words over the massive messages I received from Nigerians after the game against Cameroon. It was a feeling I never expected. I must use this medium to thank the loving and adorable football fans for their immense support for me and the team.”

The former Fortuna Düsseldorf defender also posited that he and his teammates are ready to deliver the World Cup ticket come next month in Uyo when the take on the Chipolopolo of Zambia.

Balogun got his first call-up as a late replacement in 2014 for then Captain Joseph Yobo ahead of a friendly game against Mexico and has been capped eighth times since then.

He however lasted just 20 minutes in his debut after an injury which kept him out for three months and ultimately ended any hopes of a World Cup appearance in Brazil.

The defender will be hopeful of a better outing in next year’s World Cup in Russia.
