Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr is celebrating the return from injury of his reliable defender, Leon Adeyemi Balogun, in just over month before Nigeria tango Cameroon in back-to-back World Cup qualifiers for Russia 2018.
Rohr admitted he is pleased to see the FSV Mainz 05 of Germany defender regain his full fitness ahead of clashes with Cameroon on September 1 in Uyo and September 4 in Yaoundé.
Nigeria and Cameroon are in Group B along with Zambia and Algeria. Only the group winners will secure their place in the finals.
The Eagles are sitting at the top of group table with six points with four games left, while second-placed Cameroon have two points, and Rohr admits he needs his best players for the fixtures.
As he sets about permutations for his squad list ahead of the fixture, Rohr has revealed that Balogun has regained his full fitness, and he is happy about it. “Balogun is also fit,” Rohr told Own Goal Nigeria.
The 64-year-old coach also explained that China-based striker, Odion Jude Ighalo, who is on the books of Changchun Yatai in the Chinese Super Leaguer, could also be called up; but equally hinted about other possibilities.
“He is experienced and we have also some strikers with a little more experience, Odion Ighalo also not only him. There are also other ones. So I think in the next week we will monitor all of them to be sure, we can take the best ones for these big games against Cameroon.”
