Arrangement has been concluded by the Cerebral Football Palsy Association to organise a three day tournament aimed at creating more awareness for the game as well as select a national team for the country
President of the association, Jude Uwazie told SportsDay that the championship tagged “Super 4 Tournament” which is being powered by the national adviser of the body, Rev. Samuel Ikea will hold from Friday July22- Sunday July 24 at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos and will involve four teams namely; Rev Samuel Ikpea team, Balo Idi- Araba team, Ajadi Lawa team and Premier Lotto team.
“We are organizing the championship to create more awareness for the game, select a national team as well as give people with cerebral palsy opportunity to play football.
“You are aware that a lot of people with cerebral palsy love football ball b cannot play it because of their disability but with the introduction of cerebral palsy football, they now have the opportunity to play the game and become stronger”, noted Uwazie who is the second seed of the national paratennis team.
National coach of the team, Gbenga Dosumu noted that the competition became necessary because the game will be one of the demonstration sports at the Rio 2016 Olympics and as such became necessary that the game is developed in the country even as he assured that the women version will soon be introduced.
