Emergent Nigerian boxer, Chinedu Okeke is set to confront Abdulkareem Ba (The Sniper) of Senegal in an Intercontinental Championship light middleweight elimination fight on Sunday.
Winner of the fight, billed for Iba Mar Diop Stadium in Dakar, Senegal, will contest for the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Organisation (WBO) and AIBA-approved LBF (Legend Boxing Foundation) Intercontinental Championship title.
Promoters of the fight disclosed in a media statement that Okeke would be mandated to defend the title in Nigeria if he wins on Sunday.
Okeke, who started boxing at a gym in Lagos in 2002, turned professional in 2015 and has recorded seven wins and zero defeat.
He is now seeking his big breakthrough from the fight put together and sanctioned by Heritage Boxing Entertainment, with officials of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) expected to be at ringside in Dakar.
Okeke ruled out nervousness, saying it was a dream come true for him to take to the ring, and added: “It’s a dream fight; I’m quite excited and not nervous. It’s a fight I must win, I trained hard for it and my team has been very supportive.”
