The seventh edition of Chuma Anosike Cricket Championship begins this midweek at the St Paul’s University Cricket Oval, Awka, Anambra State.
The championship which is the flagship cricket tournament exclusively for states within the South East geopolitical zone will have six teams contest for honours.
Although there are five states in the zone, one of the states, Anambra, which is the host, will present two teams for the competition, which begins on Wednesday, March 8 and ends on the 12.
Chairman Anambra State Cricket Association, Barrister Chuma Anosike predicted that the standard of play would be high as previous tournaments had seen the best of cricket played by the locals.
He said the championship, which is also supported by UAC, has contributed tremendously to the development of the sport in the zone but regretted that he was not abreast with happenings at the national level.
“I watched fantastic cricket there and I believe it can even be better this year. It is going to be fun,” Anosike stated with enthusiasm.
