Edo state, Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, says football at both male and female level will blossom under the administration of his Principal, Godwin Obaseki. Sports generally will also be cardinal to the policies of the government.
Comrade Shaibu, who has attended all games at the ongoing NWPL Super 4 in Benin City, declared that sports will be used to not only bring glory to the state but recondition and refocus the youths in the state.
He spoke at the ongoing Super 4 championship involving Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, Rivers Angels, who are defending Champions and the trail blazing Nasarawa Amazons.
Shaibu, was emphatic, when he said that Edo, which is the true home of sports in Nigeria, was desperate to reclaim her lost glory.
“We may have been praised for hosting the Super Falconets and now we are hosting the Super 4, but I can assure you that soon the Super Eagles will play here and all the names you know in the Nigerian league and all sports from our state will be back on top, just watch out”
NWPL Chairperson, Aisha Falode, thanked the government and people of Edo State for their support and Said soon the result of their investment in women football will soon start tumbling in. “on our part we remain eternally grateful to Edo for giving us a good take off and like Oliver Twist that we are, we will soon come to ask for More”.
Wednesday was observed as rest day for the four teams but the NWPL, still went out with students of the historical Idia College, Benin City to orphanages and to further sensitize the city of the ongoing Super 4 Championship.
