Enyeama: My Passion, Pride Remain For Lille

Lille Metropole of France goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama says he still has a high level of passion and pride for the Ligue 1 club, despite the myriad of woes he went through with them last season.

Enyeama is back in pre-season training with Lille’s main team, following a torrid spell with their second string squad all through last term in the French third-tier league, but the former Super Eagles captain says he holds the same passion he had from the beginning.

The veteran shot stopper, who is Nigeria’s most capped player with 101 appearances for the Eagles, took to social media to reveal his thoughts about Lille and, while stating that football is his life, he hinted at a return to the mainstream at LOSC this time out.

A new ray of hope has now opened for Enyeama, after making his return from injury in November, as he is back in training with The Great Danes’ first team

Enyeama returned to Lille’s first team training on Monday, thereby marking a big change of fortune from when he was restricted to turning out for the club’s B side.

Without Enyeama, Les Dogues struggled and had to sack the coach who put the Nigerian keeper down the pecking order, Claudio Bielsa, before fighting hard to escape demotion from the French top-flight.

Before injury kept him on the sidelines for over seven months, the 35-year-old made 143 league appearances across the last four seasons.

His biggest spell with the Stade Pierre-Mauroy side was 1,062 minutes of action without conceding a goal in the 2013-14 Ligue 1 season.

Enyeama, who has a year left on his contract, will, however, have to displace Adam Jakubech, HerveKoffi and Mike Maignan to become Lille boss, Christophe Galtier’s first choice this season.

He looks set to get his first test back in contention when Lille face newly promoted Ligue 1 side, Reims on July 14 at Stade Paul Debresie.

Enyeama is staying positive over his chances, and stated in his post: “First training session of the new season 2018/2019.same place same passion #footballismylife #losc #pride.”
