There are strong indications that Nigeria’s 400m bronze and 200m gold medallist in the African Junior Athletics Championship, Praise Idamadudu may not take part in the forthcoming IAAF Indoor Athletic Championship in United States of America, due to a knee injury sustained during training.
One of the key coaches, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed this to SportsDay in confidence, with a strong hint that Idamadudu cannot recover from the knee injury before the team’s trip to USA later this month.
“It is very sad that one of our hopes and best in the 400m and 200m race is down with serious knee injury which has kept her out training for more than a week now.
“The medical team are doing their best to make sure she recovers before then but i fix my dear she will because the knee is still swelled up and the drugs are not helping too.
“The competition is by the corner, February 20th precisely, and the team is likely to leave for Lagos any moment and she is yet to resume fitness training, so these are my fears.
“We are working on replacement already, although we want to use the championship as a build up training for the forth coming African Championship in South Africa and also for the Olympic too,” the coach lamented.
