Heartland of Owerri coach, Ramson Madu says he is happy as underdogs going into the Aiteo Federation Cup clash at oriental neighbors and title holders, FC IfeanyiUbah of Nnewi.
The Naze Millionaires are guests of the Anambra Warriors in Wednesday’s Aiteo Cup round of 16 clash at the FC IfeanyiUbah International Stadium in Nnewi.
Madu said the clash is a typical biblical clash between ‘David and Goliath’ and he hopes to emerge victorious at the end of 90 minutes football action.
“The Aiteo Cup round of 16 clash between hosts and tile holders, FC IfeanyiUbah and Heartland depicts the biblical battle between ‘David and Goliath’.
“The underdog’s status suits us well as Nigeria National League (NNL) side versus Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side.
“I like the matchup as it will afford me a golden opportunity to assess the new players in our midst as it concerns their suitability for inclusion in the top-flight squad if we gain promotion to the premier league.
“Our match plan in all the matches is outright victory that is same attitude we are taking the game to the opponents, FC IfeanyiUbah.
“We want to win the clash though we are not unmindful of the fact that we are up against the defending champions.
“The clash will not be easy as the opponents have the added advantage of playing right there at their backyard and before their teeming fans.
“However, we will go into the contest imbued as leaders of the NNL southern conference and the NNL matchday 28 clash goalless draw at Ikorodu United in Lagos on Sunday is a great boost to further come up with our best performance.
“We will give the clash our very best hoping that the winner will be decided within the regular time and that winner will be us.
“On the NNL campaign we hope to steady our concentration and focus until we succeed in gaining promotion to the elite league.
“We will not be carried away by the momentary success but continue to work hard after each match.
“We have six more matches to end the season and those matches will be quite decisive,” said Madu to supersport.com.
Heartland lead the 18-team NNL southern conference log on 56 points eight above closest challengers, Go Round FC.
