Maikaba Becomes Golden Eaglets’ Coach

Akwa United of Uyo coach, Abdul Maikaba has been confirmed as the new handler of Nigeria’s under-17 male national team, Golden Eaglets.

The confirmation was provided at the weekend by the technical and development committee of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which stated that Maikaba will lead the new technical crew of the five-time champions of the Cadet Mundial.

Following the failure of the last squad led by UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning coach, Manu Garba to defend their 2015 title in India, after failing to qualify for the African championship, Maikaba will take over as Eaglets’ head coach.

He will joined by Abubakar Bala as first assistant coach, Oluwafunsho Bunmi Haruna as second assistant coach and Baruwa Abideen as goalkeepers’ trainer, with a view towards returning to the stage Nigeria last won at Chile 2015, under the leadership of 1994 African Football of The Year, Emmanuel Amuneke.

Maikaba will aim to repeat Nigeria’s feats of winning the Cadet Mundial in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015 , after also clinching the debut at China 1985 as an under-16 competition.
