Nigeria Pick First Medal At Africa Road Championship

Team Nigeria has won their first medal at the ongoing Africa Continental Road Championship in Luxor, Egypt.

Nigeria got their first medal when Jacinta Okorie Nigeria’s only athlete in the Junior category won a Bronze in the Individual Time Trial Junior Girls category, covering a distance of 15 kilometres. Ethiopia finish in first and second positions.

National Coach Miebaka Aggo said he feels great.

“Great to win a medal in a continental championship that is almost a world standard when compare to Europe and all over the World. If Nigeria fails to use this opportunity to develop our cycling just like other African countries, we will fall behind and never rise again.”

The first Continental ‘Iron man’ reiterated that government should take sports seriously.

“Is time for the government to really come into the game of cycling before we regret not using this opportunity we have before us today, may our legs respond for us to win more medals. God bless Nigeria” Miebaka said.

In the Junior Boys category Algeria emerged top with Morocco and Ethiopia trailing in second and third positions. Eleven countries competed in the Junior Boys and Girls Individual Time Trial

In the Senior Boys and Girls race held Tuesday, Nigeria finished 4th with their male counterpart in 8th position in the Team Time Trial.

The Senior Boys and Girls race Thursday 16th February in the Individual Time Trial.
