NWFL frees COD Utd Ladies

Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has granted a compassionate concession to the players of disbanded COD United Ladies to play for any team of their choice in the upcoming season.

The Lagos outfit were disbanded by its management on the eve of registration deadline, Tuesday, March 21 given to the top-flights to complete registration for the football season due to commence on Saturday, March 25.

The NWFL chairperson, Aisha Falode said the compassionate offer is the board’s human face gesture to always take into consideration the welfare of the main actors of the league in every of her decisions.

“We are aware of the unfortunate incident at COD United Ladies that saw the owners disband the team on the eve of deadline for registration.

“In the spirit of fair play and compassion the board has freed the players of COD Ladies to lace their boots to any club side that need their service.

“Clubs are free right now to take any players of COD United Ladies for the upcoming 2016/17 NWFL season.

“We took this decision strictly in the interest of the players who are unfortunate victims of the disbandment.

“Players interest and welfare are uppermost on our minds and should be protected at all times being the main actors of the league.

“We will not be happy to see the players idle away for a whole season for no fault of theirs.

“Clubs have the concession even with the closure of registration to freely acquire any of the players that fancy their interest and value for the upcoming season.

“We want to wish COD United Ladies well in other football endeavours they may venture in future.

“We equally thank the owners for the unquantifiable contributions in the past towards the development of the women football league,” said Falode.

Falode informed that Capital City Doves did not register for the 2016/17 season as at the expiration of the deadline – Tuesday, March 21.

Capital City Doves will not participate for the season which leaves 15 teams duly registered to take part in the league.

The NWFL season will commence on Saturday, March 25 with the star match slated for the Akure Township Stadium between hosts, Sunshine Queens and Ibom Angels.

The participants are Bayelsa Queens, Heartland Queens, Sunshine Queens, Ibom Angels, Abia Angels and FC Robo Queens.

Others are Nasarawa Amazons, Osun Babes, Delta Queens, Confluence Queens, Adamawa Queens, Edo Queens, Pelican Stars and FC Saadatu Kolo Amazons.
