NYSC Member Handles Vox Pop

The public opinion angle to the under-23 renaming campaign was anchored by a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member attached to SportsDay, Patrick Onuh, who went to town with a dispassionate zeal of propelling a mass appeal for the project.

Patrick is new to Lagos, but went about the task without any hesitation or complaint, with a view that it was a unique part of his duty in national service.

He was armed with three questions during his reach-out to the public in areas like Ikeja, Agege, Surulere and Ojodu, as he tried to make the collation as widespread as possible.

His task was to seek out chance respondents and ask them for their name, location, choice of name for the under-23 and explain in few words as possible why they make that option.

At the end of the process, Patrick’s report gave Naija Eagles 12 nods, WAZOBIA Eagles five and Olympic Eagles three; but he also informed the house that there were many people he came across who did not see any point in being part of the survey.

“It was not easy,” Patrick admitted. “but I saw this as a call to service and I put my spirit into it. Though some people saw me as a jobless person trying to disturb them, I continued and I am happy with the little I was able to achieve.”
