Oduduru, Okon-George Win At Asaba African Tour

Nigeria sprint sensation Divine Oduduru, Patience Okon-George and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Joy Udo-Gabriel were among the winners at the 2018 Asaba African Tour at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State on Wednesday.

The one-day meet, which was organized to test-run facilities for the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships in Asaba in August, had various athletes competing in 19 events for various prize monies.

Most of the athletes from other African countries, who were listed to feature in the event, were absent. The meet was dominated by Nigerian athletes.

In a closely-contested men’s 100m, NCAA 200m champion Oduduru won in 10.44secs ahead of Egwero Ogho-Oghene, who finished second in 10.46secs and Enoch Adegoke who was third in 10.52secs.

On a wet Wednesday in Asaba, Udo-Gabriel set a new personal best in the women’s 100m as she finished first in 11.40secs which replaces her earlier PB of 11.42secs set in Australia in April.

Mercy Ntia-Obong was second in 11.78secs while Blessing Ogundiran finished third in 12.20secs.

In the women’s 400m, Okon-George won with a season best of 51.49secs ahead of Abike Egbeniyi, who finished in 52.48secs and Rita Ossai, who was third in 54.95secs.

Isah Salihu won the men’s 400m in 46.70secs ahead of Orukpe Erayokan (47.05secs) and Daniel Atinaya (47.95secs). Henry Okorie won the men’s 400m hurdles in 52.03secs while Gbenga Bakare finished second in 53.42secs and Ismail Muhammed finished third in 54.46secs.
