Odukoya Wins Williams/Ogun Junior T-Tennis Tourney

It was a sweet victory for Sodiq Odukoya who defeated two times finalist, Ayomide Abiona by three sets to one to emerge as the new junior champion of the recently concluded Ogun State, Hon.Segun Williams Developmental Table Tennis Championship held at the Alake Sports Complex,Ijeja , Abeokuta.

Ayomide Edunjobi and Opeyemi Adeniyi jointly finished in the third position.

To reach the final, Abiona dismissed the defending champion, Edunjobi in thesemi-final by three sets to two, while odukoya beat adeniyi by three sets to one in the other semi-final contest.

Esther Akintonde, however, continued her dominance of the junior girls’ singleretaining the title she won last February by humiliating rival Mariam Popoola by three straight sets in a repeat of the last month final of the junior girls categoryof the competition.

Yetunde Yekeen and Abibat Adeboye jointly clinched the third position.

Akintonded thrashed Abibat Adeboye by two strainght sets while Popoolawhiped Yetunde Yekeen by three straight sets in their respective semi-finals ,to reach finalof the championship.

Also in the cadet boys’ single, Rokeeb Bisiriyu emerged as the new champion, afterthrashing Shuaib Adisa by three straight sets while Tobi Idowu and Damilola Bolajokoboth finished in the third spot.

For the cadet girls’s single, Karimot Kareem is the new champion, beating Olorunfunmi Adekoya by three sets to two in a keenly contested final , while the defending champion

Fathia Yekeen and Kehinde Olayiwola ended in the joint third position.

The State Table Tennis Association, David Osuolale who lauded the efforts of the tournament financier, Hon.Segun Williams and other members for the success recorded so far, described

the emergence of new champions in three of the four categories as a welcome development.

He said every player would not relax for the next month competition and work very hard to

secure a place in the Team-Ogun Table Tennis side.

“We are looking forward to under-17 National Youths Game holding in August, Ilorin,the Kwarastate capital, by then there will be enough players to represent Ogun State at the game”,Osuolale declared.
