Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel midfielder, John Ugochukwu Ogu (Suker) has described his invitation to the Super Eagles for World Cup build-up matches against Serbia and Poland as a blessing from God.
Though many Nigerian football lovers would say Ogu deserves to be in the list of 28 players rolled out on Wednesday by Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr, the lanky former Slovenia and Portugal-based player say he feels privileged to be in the roster.
The former Academica De Coimbra of Portugal star has grown in stock since making Eagles his debut in 2013 and has two breathtaking goals in 16 appearances for the team, but he is staying modest about his status in the Nigerian squad.
Rather than get carried away by his national team exploits, Ogu said he is blessed to have been called up for the Eagles’ upcoming friendlies against Poland and Serbia later this month.
“I feel blessed to be called up for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in our upcoming friendlies. I will never joke with this opportunity and privilege,” Ogu stated.
