Ogun State Under 12 Female side will represent Nigeria at an international youth championship later this year in Sweden or Japan after trashing Kogi State 16-3 points to emerge champions on Friday at the ongoing National Under 12 and 15 Handball competition in Lagos.
The team did not allow the initial setback, which saw several of the state teams’ players sent home for alleged age-cheat, to weigh them down, as they fought hard to dismiss Edo State 22-7 points and Ekiti State 26-3 points respectively in the previous matches before securing the final match.
It was however different story for the gateway state;s Under -15 Female side who emerged 4th position, after losing to their Abia State opponents 13-22 points in a third placed match played at the championship.
Also the Ogun State Under 15 Male side who defeated Kano State 28-17, despite having just six players, came 4th position after suffering from a defeat in the hands of Kogi State.
The state Under 12 Male parading just four players, in a dramatic fashion defeated Ekiti State with all its seven players 7-4 points, after the initial loses to Sokoto State 8-26 points and Kebbi State 10-11 points.
