Enyimba International of Aba technical adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote has expressed his appreciation of the club’s diligent followership, and urged the fans to continue in the same vein going forward as the title race enters the final stretch.
Speaking with SportsDay after their 3-0 victory against Niger Tornadoes of Mina on Sunday, the former Shooting Stars of Ibadan gaffer said: “First and foremost, I want to thank the fans for their support so far.
“At the same time, I want to enjoin them to come out en masses to support the team to victory in our remaining games. I want them to still have confidence, and believe in the team; that the team will deliver.
“At this point in time, we are not even talking of revenge. What we are just trying to do is to ensure that we win all our home games, and keep gathering points so we can finish in an appreciable position.”
To that end, the team is boosted by the return of captain, Mfon Udoh, following an injury lay-off, and Ogunbote is simply grateful to have his top marksman back.
In his absence, there has been both feast and famine: a 4-0 hammering of El Kanemi was followed by defeat in Uyo.
He added: “Mfon’s return is a plus for the team, no doubt. But that doesn’t mean that, without him, the team won’t play. That being said, we should not forget the fact that he’s the leader of the team, so his presence is always a boost to the team.”
A win would take Enyimba up to 44 points, a haul that could see the club rise as high as third on the log by the end of Matchday 28.
