Omeruo counts on Brazil 2014 experience, form to shine at World Cup

Kenneth Omeruo has said his current form and the experience from the last World Cup in Brazil will help him to shine in Russia next month.

Having rejoined Kasimpasa for his second spell with the Istanbul club on yet another loan move at the start of the 2017/2018 Turkish season, Kenneth Omeruo has gone on to make 27 league starts in 32 matches so far at the heart of the Kasimpasa defence.

In those matches, the Chelsea loanee has helped his team to six clean sheets, while picking up only three cautions.

This season is a remarkable improvement on his disciplinary record as he bagged eight and 10 yellow cards in the two preceding seasons, respectively.

The Nigeria international defender told SportsDay in a brief chat yesterday that “Getting minutes ahead of the crucial summer influenced my decision to move on loan away from Chelsea and today I am not regretting making the choice to join Kasimpasa.”

Omeruo has now promised whole-hearted commitment to the Nigeria cause in Russia.

“One thing I would guarantee is commitment whenever I am called upon,” he vowed.

“My form going into the World Cup is at its best and I would draw from my experience in Brazil to ensure that we don’t disappoint millions of Nigerians.”

He concluded by praising the quality of players and atmosphere within the Super Eagles ranks, describing it as the best he has seen in recent times, adding that everyone’s focus is to ensure the team go far at the World Cup.

Omeruo has also played at the FIFA U17 and U20 World Cups.
