Port Harcourt is set to host another continental sporting event, after Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) granted Nigeria hosting right for the 2019 All African Senior Badminton Championships.
In a letter Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), the continental body conveyed approval for Port Harcourt, Rivers State to host the competition from 22nd to 28th April next year.
This was in response to a bid by BFN submitted at the BCA annual general meeting, which held in Thailand earlier this year.
In response, BFN president, Francis Orbih expressed gratitude to BCA for granting Nigeria the hosting right.
He was however quick to point out that there is still a lot of work ahead if Nigeria is to deliver a world class championship.
Orbih, who noted that the last time Nigeria hosted the event was 2000 in Bauchi, which is now 18 years ago, and thanked Rivers State governor, Barrister NyesomWike for accepting to host the event.
