Former CSKA Moscow of Russia striker, Aaron Samuel Olanere could be on his way to Portugal, as reports indicate interest in his signature by FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon.
So soon after the former Super Eagles striker was declared surplus to requirements at CSKA, another effectual door has opened for him, as the top duo in Portugal appear ready to snatch him before the summer transfer window closes on August 31.
The report out of Iberia states further that Sporting appear ahead of the race for the all-action attacker, who mutually parted ways with CSKA Moscow this week which alerted several clubs to his availability.
Sporting’s egg heads promised to recruit two strikers in the wake of a 3-1 win at Moreirense in their Primeira Liga curtain raiser last weekend and one of their targets is Samuel.
Rafael Leão, Gelson Martins, Daniel Podence and Héldon are among the attack-minded players that departed he Lisbon-based club this summer and the two notable reinforcements in attack are wingers Raphinha and Nani.
Sporting’s rivals, Porto are also in the hunt for the 24-year-old, who has scored 36 goals in 120 matches since he moved abroad in 2012, and has played for Vålerenga, Sarpsborg 08, Guangzhou R&F, Amkar Perm and CSKA.
Both Portuguese clubs have strong Nigerian traditions, with Emmanuel Amuneke having starred for Sporting long ago, while Porto had Philip Chidi Onyemah and Kelvin Onyekachi Amuneke in their early days, before a plethora of current new signings.
Among the current array of Nigerian lads at Porto are Chidozie Awaziem, Kelechi Nwakali, Mikel Ndubuisi Agu and Sanni Yahaya.
