Wolverhampton Wanderers of England goalkeeper, Carl Onuoha Ikeme is recovering quicker than expected from his battle with leukaemia, such that Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr is even thinking of having the shot-stopper in his squad for the World Cup.

Rohr is already looking ahead to the Eagles playing at Russia 2018, though they have a testy clash with Zambia on October 7 in Uyo to decide their fate,. And says he would love to have Ikeme in the squad to the Mundial.

Ikeme was diagnosed with leukemia during a routine medical with his English Championship side, which led to crisis for Nigeria in the goalkeeping department.

In response, Rohr initiated talks with former Eagles captain and goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, but is now staying hopeful that Ikeme will return on time ahead of their campaign at the World Cup in Russia.

The German coach said he is happy that Ikeme is responding positively to treatment, and if all goes according to plan, he will definitely be in the Nigerian team for the World Cup, where they need one more win from their remaining two games to qualify.

“Carl Ikeme is recovering well and the team believes he will be ready if the Super Eagles qualified for the World Cup,” Rohr said.
