Spain have registered their beach soccer national team for this year’s COPA Lagos Beach Soccer Championship scheduled to hold from December 8 to 10 at Eko Atlantic City in Lagos.
According to the organisers of the competition Kenetic Sports, it will be the first time the Spanish side will be coming to Africa.
Coach Joaquín Alonso’s side have appeared at the Beach Soccer World Cup 14 times. They were runners-up in 2003, 2004 and 2013.
Aside from soccer, music, fashion, fans’ zone and celebrity entertainment, fans will watch the maiden Female Celebrity Match.
Competition organiser and Managing Director of Kinetic Sports, Samson Adamu said: “This year’s edition of COPA Lagos is bringing three exciting days of soccer, fashion, music, business, and networking opportunities.
“With the support of our sponsors, FCMB, Pepsi and HERO, who have made it also possible to scout and train indigenous talents, our long and medium term plan is to make the tournament more than just a beach soccer event.
“(We want it) to become a major tournament that will put Nigeria on the global tourism space, promote a beach culture and lifestyle from Lagos to other parts of Nigeria.”
