Udi Says Sunshine Achieved NPFL Target

Written By: SD Reporter

Sunshine Stars of Akure coach, Duke Udi is happy that his side eventually escaped relegation and declared that they achieved their mandate in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The Owena Waves piped hosts and newcomers, Remo Stars 1-0 in the top-flight final day matchday 38 clash in Sagamu to secure their premier league status.

Udi said his wards peaked greatly towards the close of the league season leading to wonderful performances in the latter matches.

“We achieved the management mandate on us to keep the side in the premier league at the end of the just concluded top-flight.

The team finished 10th on the 20-team top-flight log on 54 points I think that is a good performance.

“I must give kudos to the players they are wonderful as well as performed fantastically well in recent matches which made the ride quite smooth.

“The players peaked at the right time and it helped us greatly to survive relegation in the out-gone top-flight,” said the former Osun United coach to supersport.com.

The Akure outfit finished the top-flight campaign on the 10th spot on 54 points 12 behind champions, Plateau United.

Udi said his side will take the top-flight momentum to the Aiteo Cup giant killers, Ngwa FC in Abakaliki on Wednesday in the Cup round of 16 clash.

“We do not know Ngwa FC I hope to call Coach Solomon Ogbeide of Lobi Stars to help me with information on the side.

“Ngwa FC must be good side to edge out a strong side like Lobi Stars in the Aiteo Cup.

“Usually, such dark teams do not go all out to win but to make bold statement as well as market their players.

“We will surely look out for quality players among them to add to our side after the encounter.

“We will respect them like any other tough sides but will never fear them.

“Both of us share same ambition to win the clash but I know for certain that we will emerge victorious at the end of the day,” said Udi.

The Akure landlords are guests of Ngwa FC in Wednesday’s Aieto Cup round of 16 clash in Abakaliki.
