Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers have apparently targeted Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses as a deadline day signing, even if that makes little sense largely thanks to Moses’s homegrown status.
The claim is from the Mirror’s James Nursey, picked up the Birmingham Mail, who point out that there have been absolute no suggestions that Moses could leave Chelsea this summer.
Chelsea do need to shed a couple players who are non-homegrown (we have 19 in the first-team squad currently and can only register 17), but that does not include Moses.
While it’s true that his role is likely to be reduced this season as Sarri’s system does not utilized wing-backs, Moses is more than capable further up the wing as well, which is where he used to play before Conte famously converted him into a more two-way player. And that’s exactly where Moses has been deployed a couple times this preseason, with César Azpilicueta and Davide Zappacosta sharing right back duties in the restructured back-four.
So, probably nothing to worry about here, just a bit of last-minute deadline day chatter.
