Austria Wien sporting director, Franz Wohlfart has confirmed that the club ‘s top scorer last season, Olarewaju Kayode is in talks with a club in England, over possible transfer this summer.
English Premier League sides, Watford and Newcastle United have both sounded out Kayode and, though Wohlfart did not mention any particular side, he admitted that the 24-year-old attacker is closing in on a transfer.
In the last 48 hours Newcastle have moved slightly ahead of Watford in the race for the forward, but the one issue still holding the official confirmation of the deal is the issue of work permit.
The former youth international is not eligible for a work permit going by the conventional rules, hence Newcastle want to be sure he will be granted one via other means before they proceed with the next step in their bid to sign him.
Known for his pace, power and goal scoring abilities, teams from Turkish, Spain and Germany are waiting in the wings to snap him up if the Home Office in England rules against a work permit for the Nigerian senior national team forward.
Wohlfart said it would be a big flow for his club to lose Kayode, who finished as top scorer in Austria, and was subsequently voted the best player in the country last season, but says the lad wants to join a a team in a competitive league higher than that of Austria.
