Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) have increased the weight categories from eight to 10 for the maiden Governor Nyesom Wike National Wrestling Championship, which will hold in Port Harcourt, Rivers State from November 23 to 30.
the United World Wrestling’s Bureau officially approved the switch from eight to 10 weight categories across all events in August.
The Technical Director of the NWF, Damien Ohaike, said a total of 90 weight categories would be available in Greco-Roman, female wrestling and men’s freestyle events.Damien said wrestlers for the 2018 Africa Wrestling Championships would be selected from the competition.
He said, “Rivers should expect the best wrestlers. Everyone wants to represent Nigeria at the African Championships and I’m sure it is going to be a reasonable competition.”
