Zenit Saint Petersburg of Russia defender, Emanuel Mammana is in doubt to play for Argentina against Nigeria on the 26th of June at the home ground of his club, as he copped an injury last weekend.
Mammana, who was a late call up by La Albiceleste for the November 14, 2017 loss to Nigeria in an international friendly, had to be stretchered off the pitch at Stadion Olimp 2 in the fifth minute of Zenit’s Russian Premier League match at Rostov last weekend.
The injury came after he landed awkwardly on his knee following a collision with another likely Group D opponent at Russia 23018, Iceland star, Bjorn Bergmann Sigurdarson.
Mammana left the stadium with a splint and on crutches to a hospital in which later it was determined that he suffered the rupture of the cruciate ligaments and the meniscus.
The 22-year-old was not invited for Argentina’s upcoming friendlies against Spain and Italy and his chances of making the 23-man roster for the World Cup appear slim with this latest setback.
He was on the bench in La Albiceleste’s 4-2 loss to Nigeria in a pre-World Cup friendly last November.
