2002 STATE FA CUP FINAL: NASARAWA UNITED CLINCHS THE TROPHY

The Nigeria Professional Football League side showed why they are the most successful club in Nasarawa State after winning their 10th straight FA Cup title following a 1-0 victory over hard-fighting Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) FC during the 2022 State FA Cup final decided at the football field of Federal University, Lafia, on Wednesday evening.

A 70th minute sensational goal by super substitute, Shammasu Mohammed after being teed up by Dauda Maigishiri was all the Solid Miners needed to overcome their stubborn opponents who were earlier reduced to ten men following a red card for Araba Nwabude who nudged down Chinedu Ohanachom during a verbal altercation.

Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Amb Lucky Isaac Yargwa, presented the trophy to the champions at the finale made much more glamorous by the presence of other dignitaries among whom were Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi(Chairman, Nasarawa United FC); Hon. Yakubu Mohammed Lawal Lawal Yahaya(Commissioner for Information Culture and Tourism); Hon. Salisu Musa Iyimoga(House Committee Chairman on Youth and Sports Development, NSHA); FRSC Nasarawa State Corps Commander Ibrahim Maiyaki; Comr. Hamza Moyi Awe(SSA to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Sports Affairs); Hajiya Hussaina Suleiman(Chairperson, Nasarawa Amazons FC); and representative of the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lafia, while State FA Chairman, Alh. Alkali Mohammed, led a retinue of the Board Members of the State FA.

Speaking after the game , Shammasu Mohammed said, “I wish to congratulate my team on winning this year’s FA Cup.

“I feel truly happy to have scored the only goal that gave us this trophy today. Our opponents today weren’t a bad side but we had an edge over them because of our experience.”

However Both Nasarawa United and FRSC FC will represent the State at the National Aiteo Federation Cup.
