Omeruo Bows To Balogun In Starting Eleven

Leganes of Spain defender, Kenneth Omeruo is set to lose out once again to Brighton & Hove Albion of England’s Leon Aderemi Balogun in the race for a starting shirt against South Africa on Saturday.
Despite recent form at club level for Omeruo, juxtaposed with a run of nine straight matches on Brighton’s bench for Balogun, Eagles’ gaffer, Gernot Rohr has other plans in mind.
Rohr would rather go for continuity in the heart of his defence, hence his choice of the enduring combination between Balogun and Udinese of Italy stopper, Williams Troost-Ekong for Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.
Balogun has played just two games so far for Brighton, which led to wide speculation that he would lose his shirt in the national team to Omeruo, who has played the last five games of Leganes in the high-profile La Liga.
However, feelers out of the Eagles’ camp before their flight to Jo’Burg on Thursday evening revealed that Rohr is ready to keep the central defence pairing of Balogun and Troost-Ekong for Saturday’s clash.
This appeared to have been confirmed by the team’s last training session and drills on Thursday morning at Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, as Rohr paid specila attention to the Balogun/Troost-Ekong combo.
