Female basketball national team, D’Tigress star, Evelyn Akhator has expressed delight at her ability to go home with two prizes at the 2018 Nigerian Sports Awards (NSA).
After enacting an awards ‘double-double’ on Saturday, as she emerged the best basketball player and Sports Woman of the Year, Akhator was ecstatic all the way.
She attributed the success to D’Tigress’ amazing results at the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Tenerife, Spain, for which she acknowledged that the coach, Otis Hughley should have also got an award on Saturday.
D’Tigress ace confessed that she was hugely disappointed not to win the award in 2017, as it went to Odunayo Adekuoroye, but says it fired her up to keep improving in her game and aim for another chance to reign.
Akhator said: “Winning off the court like on the court is a great feeling, no one wants to lose.
“I am thankful to God for the opportunity he gave me. Last year, I won the ball person of the year but I wanted that Sports Woman of the year.
“I am thankful to God that I didn’t go to sleep. I hate that I didn’t win last year but at the same time it was a motivation for me.
“The girl who won it last year is a good wrestler. One thing I love is competition it helps ensure that I achieve.”
