Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has stated delight with Tuesday’s international friendly against Uganda, as he says it accorded him the opportunity of trying out new ideas with the team and getting to see some fresh options available to the squad.
Rohr parried insinuations in some quarters that the match at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba was inconsequential, as he insists he was able to see a lot of varieties and innovations from the game.
The Franco-German gaffer pointed out that it was good seeing Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel midfielder, John Ugochukwu Ogu get another opportunity to play as a central defender in the friendly against Uganda.
He recounted that Ogu played as a center back in the pre-World Cup friendlies against England and Czech Republic, which is against his normal role in attacking midfield.
Rohr said that he wanted to try various options as well as observe some players who were omitted form previous squads on account of injuries.
He added: ”We want to see some new faces in the team like (Samuel) Chukwueze with his left foot on the right side, other players coming back like (Victor) Osimhen after a long time with injury.
”It is a moment for them to show they are fit again and they can bring something to the national team.
”Ogu is coming back, Mikel Agu is coming back; an interesting game, a good test for us.”
