Iwobi: I Feel At Home With Arsenal

Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi has revealed how he stayed put with The Gunners even when he thought he was not needed at the club, simply because he felt at home with the team and the atmosphere.

Iwobi, who has turned into one of tthe London club’s most rated players in two seasons, admitted he was touted for deals elsewhere, but he opted to stay put because he loved the spirit at Highbury.

The club have since moved to Emirates Stadium and Iwobi, who at a point captained their under-21 team, says the feeling remains the same.

Iwobi, who was an Arsenal trialist from the age of six and officially signed for the north London club aged nine, made his first team debut in a League Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday in October 2015.

Since then, he has been able to pool 117 appearances to his name to date, but he has revealed that he almost joined London side Crystal Palace as a teenager.

He recalls speaking to several clubs, including Celtic and Southampton, with a view to joining any of the sides as he was unsure of The Gunners offering him a scholarship.

Iwobi recalls: “I felt that maybe I wasn’t rated at Arsenal but I always felt at home here, so I signed the scholarship forms. Then it was all about proving people wrong.”
