Ondo State on Monday qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s volleyball event at the 19th National Sports Festival, following victory over Plateau State.
The Owena Team won 3-1 to progress, in spite of losing the first set 25-19.
However, Ondo turned the table round by winning the remaining three sets 18-25, 17-25 and 15-25 to make the tally 3-1.
Coach of the side, Adeniyi Adekalu said the victory was due to the high level of preparation they had before the festival.
Adekalu disclosed that his team had won the zonal elimination as well as another event in Cotonou and Shell competition in Port Harcourt before heading for the sports festival.
He added that Ondo State indegenes and fans should expect more good results from the team in their forthcoming encounters.
Adekalu enthused: “We have been preparing ourselves, we know what will happen here and you could see how we came back when we were almost going.”
