By Joanne Iwuchukwu, Abuja

President of Rowing and sailing in Nigeria,  Festus Porbeni has stated that the motivation behind having a standard rowing lake is the fact that Nigeria lost out to hosting the Olyimpics due the fact there was no laying for rowing which made him to put up the efforts to laying the lake at the Jabi lake games resort.

The president equally said that will help athelets to now prepare for forthcoming  competition such as All African games as well as Olympics  games Tokyo 2020. Because players selected from the just concluded national sports festival will be based here in abuja to practice for upcoming events.

“There was a time Nigeria wanted to host the Commmon wealth games and we found out that there was no laying for rowing I was really angry.  So I made effort to up this laying for rowing. It cannot be only in riverline areas,  it can be Argungun,  Calabar resort and so on.

Thus place will be open for training  of our athelets both in west Africa.  It should be open for children and Athletebwho wants to train can come to Jabi lake.  We have discussed with owner to allow them train, to grow and explore  more.

We  already started planning towards All African games and Tokyo 2020. In fact  players selected during the just concluded festival games and they will be based here in Abuja to train.  Football has a stadium,  boxing has a gym but rowing hasn’t then but now we can boost if having one.  Athletes  can now compete and train”, he concluded
