Anthony Joshua has labelled Dillian Whyte an “idiot” after the two shared the ring in the aftermath of the latter’s knockout victory over Dereck Chisora.
Whyte produced a stunning finish in the 11th round to send Chisora to the mat in a thrilling rematch of their 2016 heavyweight bout.
Joshua, on commentary duty as part of Sky Sports Box Office’s broadcast, was invited in the ring afterwards with Whyte telling the IBF, WBA and WBO champion: “I deserve my shot, I’ve worked my way up!”
Joshua cut a calm figure in the ring, telling Whyte he will gladly fight him but suggested a unification bout with WBC champion Deontay Wilder remains his priority.
But speaking later on in the night, Joshua expressed his frustration with Whyte’s attitude.
“Dillian is an idiot. You know why? I showed him some respect, I told him straight, ‘I knocked you out clean when we fought before but let’s forget about that because we’ve both developed so let’s prove who the better fighter is’.
“If Deontay Wilder isn’t serious and he wants to fight Tyson Fury again; Dillian, you will get a shot. But the he starts piping up.
“I’m quite respectful but if Dillian steps in the ring with me, trust me… none of these heavyweights are on my level. But I keep my lid on, because I don’t want to explode on anyone but I do that business in the ring. If Dillian is serious, he can come get this work.”
