Despite drawing its first home match goalless against Kwara United, Chief Coach of Bendel Insurance, Baldwin Bazuaye and team mentor and Deputy Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu have hailed the team’s gritty performance against a very resilient and experienced Kwara side.
The duo are also sure that the team will win subsequent home matches and pick points on the road to achieve their dreams of playing in the NPFL Super 8, where they are thinking of picking up a continental ticket.
Speaking to SportsDay after the match in Benin City, Bazuaye said there is no need to fret, while the deputy governor, said the team can only get better. Shaibu said apart from experience captain of the team, Charles Omokaro, all other players of the team are 19 years below adding they can only get better as the season continues. “Insurance are away specialists and they will pick points on the road and shock all ontheir comeback”.
The team is already prepared for its second away match against Niger Tornadoes at the Lokoja Township Stadium, with assurances from the players that they will not disappoint its teeming fans.
The Sports loving deputy governor, assured that his Principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, will take over the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium by April, this year with a lot of modifications already carried out. Among them is a Merchandise Store for Bendel Insurance and the total uplift of the tennis courts. The stadium will serve as the home ground of the Edo Arsenal.
Edo State Sports Festival is also soon to hold to help throw up newtalents that will replace the ageing ones in the future. All the 18 Local Governments in the state are expected to prsent athletes in various events for the festival.
