Eubank Jr Says Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Is Biggest Fight In British Boxing

The 29-year-old was ringside for the first bout between Wilder and Fury

Brighton super-middleweight Chris Eubank Jr has declared Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury is the biggest fight to be made in British boxing.

The contender has his own domestic grudge match against James DeGale scheduled for February 23 – which you can listen to live on talkSPORT – but concedes his bout would be overshadowed if the heavyweights agreed to square off.

However, it’s unlikely that we’ll see Joshua vs Fury in the immediate future as the ‘Gypsy King’ has unfinished business – and is currently negotiating a rematch – with Deontay Wilder.

When asked about their first bout, Eubank Jr told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT: “I was ringside, watching the two knockdowns right there, for me I could see maybe why it was a draw.

“Watching it back, he [Fury] definitely outboxed him for most of the fight but it wasn’t a huge surprise for me to be honest.

“Having a draw just means a rematch which means more money.

The WBC have now ordered a rematch of Wilder vs Fury, though the teams were already in talks

“Wilder is one of those fighters that can knock you out at any point in the fight so you can never really go against him.

“But at the same time, Fury had a lot of ring rust and I’m sure that fight brought him right back into it. I think the next fight probably could be even better.”

Meanwhile, back in the UK, unified champion Anthony Joshua is on the hunt for his next opponent.

The Brit made offers to Wilder and Fury, but will more likely face Dillian Whyte or Jarrell Miller because his top two choices are set to face one another.

Anthony Joshua holds three of the four major heavyweight world titles

Were Fury to overcome Wilder and claim the American’s WBC world title, the potential fight with Joshua would become an historic contest for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

“Fury is controversial,” Eubank Jr continued, “He’s outspoken and I think that a fight with AJ is the biggest fight in British boxing.

“It has to happen at some point. That is a fight that we would all love to see, hopefully they get it on in 2019.”
