Prof. Omotayo Calls For Dissolution Of Ogun Sports Council

A Professor of Sports Psychology, Seun Omotayo has called for dissolution of the Ogun State Sports Council and the setting up of a sports commission

in order to ensure proper administration of sporting activities and better performance at sports festival and  major competitions

Omotayo speaking during the State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria(SWAN) 2019 Press week’s lecture in Abeokuta, asked the

State Government to apply the right model of running sports, by creating Ogun State Sports Commission with employment of professionals to affairs

of sports and do away with the current civil-service structure being operated in sports council ,where anybody can be transferred from any of the ministries to run sports activities.

Delta, Kano, Rivers, Lagos and Edo states according to him, are doing well in sports because of creation of sports commission now running sports,we need professionals sports administrators not just anybody to manage sports in Ogun State, to get the desired result.

The Secretary- General of Gateway 2006 National Festival Local Organizing Committee hosted by the state, also tasked the State House of Assembly

to fast-track the process of passing the amended Sports Development Trust Fund bill, to encourage private participation in funding of sports in the state.

He  faulted the process of discovering and managing of athletes as well as camping system in the state, saying there should be at least six weeks of camping of athletes with proper nutrition before any major competition, blaming the state poor performance in the recent on short camping of three weeks .

Omotayo however called for upgrading of local coaches and better system of recruitment of athletes into Team-Ogun and the Nigeria National League side, Gateway United  football club of Abeokuta for the state to regain its lost glory in sports.
