Iwobi Will Bench Denis Suarez At Arsenal – Smith

Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi has received a massive boost of confidence for more playing time with The Gunners, even after the arrival of Denis Suarez from Barcelona of Spain.

Although many observers are of a view that Iwobi’s place in the London club might be under threat from Suarez, an ex-Arsenal player, Alan Smith thinks otherwise.\

Smith sees Suarez as ‘an impact player’ that might not go straight into The Gunners’ starting line-up, thereby giving Iwobi further chances to excel in the team.

Smith added that Suarez is more of a ‘squad player,’ who loves to add to the numbers, rather than shine in front, which also means Iwobi’s recent key roles at Emirates Stadium could still stand him out.

Additional hope for Iwobi comes from statistics that show Suarez only played 24 minutes of La Liga football for Barcelona in the first half of the 2018-19 campaign.

The Spaniard hardly featured for Barcelona in the first half of this season, and Smith has claimed that the new arrival will only be “a squad player” at Arsenal.

All odds, therefore, show that Suarez would still rate behind Iwobi, though he has previous experience of English football having turned out on two occasions for Manchester City in the early stages of his career.

Smith, however, admitted that he was left underwhelmed by the London club’s decision to sign the 25-year-old Suarez on loan during the January transfer window.

Smith reasoned: “Arsenal fans would have loved to have seen a little bit more business, but they did manage to bring in Denis Suarez. How much will he play though as you imagine he may be a bit of a squad player?”
