Lobi Stars Will Recover In Morocco – Ogbeide

Lobi Stars of Makurdi coach, Solomon Ogbeide is staying defiant and still talking about progress into the knock-out stage of the CAF Champions League, despite losing 1-0 at home against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.

Wydad now occupy top spot in the group with six points from three games, while Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, who defeated ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire 3-1 on Friday, sit in second position with the same number of points but with an inferior goal difference.

Super Eagles’ Brazil 2014 World Cup midfielder, Babatunde Michael started the game for WAC and put up a battling show against his compatriots, before he was replaced by Amin Tighazoui 13 minutes from time.

In the wake of Saturday’s defeat at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, Ogbeide started talking about getting revenge during the second leg on February 12, but admitted his team must dig deep to get their desired result.

This is sequel to a massive setback to their ambitions, as Lobi Stars’ hopes of progressing into the knockout round of the money-spinning elite clubs’ continental contest received a second defeat in Group A.

The Pride of Benue fell by the same result away to against ASEC, after beating Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in their opening group game.

In their third match on Saturday, which had been delayed y 24 hours due to a political rally at the same arena on Friday, Lobi Stars needed a win to boost their chances but fell behind when one of their defenders, Mama Bah-Yere fouled a Wydad opponent in the box.

Mohamed Nahiri converted the resulting penalty in the 20th minute to give Wydad the lead and almost made it two in the 63rd minute through another spot kick, but Lobi goalkeeper, Olufemi Kayode made a heroic save.

However, Lobi Stars could not battle back to victory and now have just three points from three games; thereby leaving Ogbeide with words only to revive confidence in his players and their fans ahead of their trip to Morocco for the second leg.

Ogbeide boasted that his lads will get redemption when they visit Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium for the reverse fixture on Tuesday, February 12.
