Female national team, Super Falcons’ dazzling midfielder, Ngozi Okobi has sent messages of congratulations on the birthday of two former players-turned-coaches, Florence Omagbemi (44) and Ann Chiejine (45), who she described as Nigerian legends.
Okobi, who now plays for Eskilstuna United DFF of Sweden, noted the roles Omagbemi and Chiejine both played for the Nigerian female team, first as star players in the squad, then as coaches, for which she believes they deserve more than words on their joint-birthday.
Omagbemi, who was the pioneer captain of the Falcons at China ’91 FIFA Women’s World Cup, was the immediate past head coach and won the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations in charge of the squad in Cameroon.
On her part, former Ann Agumanu (aka Mama Goal) is remembered as Nigeria’s longest serving number one female goalkeeper, who once defied a pregnancy to star for the country at the continental soccer fiesta and has served in various tenures as an assistant coach.
Both former players celebrated their birthdays on Saturday and, in her felicitations with them, Okobi, who has also starred for Delta Queens of Asaba, Washington Spirit of USA and Vittsjö GIK took to social media to honour the icons.
Okobi stated: “Legends, I celebrate you both today as you add +1 today, happy birthday to the best female coaches super falcons have ever had. If you play under these coaches you go understand. #florenceOmagbemi and Ann Chiejine.”
