Uzochukwu Deserves Saudi Arabia Move – Olayanju

Former Ghana, Benin Republic and Egypt-based defender, Femi Olayanju (Shakpore) has congratulated one of his previous teammates, Ugonna Uzohukwu on his move to Al-Washm of Saudi Arabia, and declared that the battling midfielder deserves the deal.

Olayanju, who also played alongside Ugonna at Anambra United of Awka back in 2009, is happy to hear that the former home-based Eagles star had hooked a deal with the Prince Mohammad bin Salman League side.

Uzochukwu, who plays as defensive midfielder like his more popular brother and former Super Eagles invitee, Uzonna Uzochukwu, moves to Saudi Arabia after helping Rangers of Enugu win the Federation Cup last year and had a spell playing in Morocco.

In his reaction, Olayanju is staying optimistic for Uzochukwu, despite observers worried that he might have a tough time at Al-Washm, who are second bottom of the lower league with 23 points from 22 matches.

The dark-skinned right-back, who had short spells with FC Ebedei of Sagamu as well as COD United and Union Bank FC of Lagos, believes his pal has what it takes tom help his new club swim out relegation waters, as they are just a point away from safety.

Olayanju noted that Uzochukwu, who joined Chippa United of South Africa soon after winning bronze with Nigeria’s B-squad at the 2014 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in the same country, has paid his dues over the years.

While celebrating Nigeria’s latest addition to the growing legion of players based in Saudi Arabia, Olayanju posted curtly on social media: “Congratulations, star boi.”
