Moses Not Cup Tied For Europa League – Fernebahce

Fernebahce of Turkey January signing, Victor Moses has entered history as one player who escaped the ‘cup-tied’ regulation that stopped several stars from playing for two different clubs in the same competition during a single season, in both domestic and continental championships.

Moses will surprisingly play in the knock-out stage of the UEFA Europa League, despite having earlier played two group stage matches for Chelsea in the same competition this season.

The clearance comes after Fernebahce argued that Moses remains a Chelsea player, as he is only on loan at the Turkish Super Lig side in an 18-month agreement from their London-based counterparts.

Effectively, Moses will still being playing for ‘the same team’ when the knock-out stage commences next week, although he will appear with a squad from another country, with a new number and don a new jersey.

Moses will now appear in jersey number eight with the club he joined from Stamford Bridge last month, and is one of three new players the Istanbul-based side have included in their squad for the knock out stage.

The former Super Eagles star, who had previously played on loan at Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham United, after starting his career at Crystal Palace and Wigan Athletic, will now aim for a repeat of history in the Europe, which he won in his first season with Chelsea.

The 28-year-old Moses, who played earlier in this season’s competition for Chelsea against Vidi and BATE Borisov, has now been listed in Ferne’s A roster, as the Istanbul club relied on a UEFA rule that allows each team to register three new players for the knock-out stage.

Moses will now aim for a repeat of his glorious outings with The Blues in the 2012-13 season, when he scored against Rubin Kazan and FC Basel in the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

Although Moses netted four goals in total back then, he was left on the bench for all 90 minutes of the final, which Chelsea won against Benfica of Portugal on May 15, 2013.
