Despite spirited efforts from Middlesbrough star, John Mikel Obi and Oghenekaro Etebo of Stoke City, both Nigerian midfielders have failed to make into the English Championship top-50 players ranking, but Egypt’s Ahmed Hegazi is rated 40th.
Although Hegazi is said to have been ruled out of Egypt’s friendly against Nigeria in Asaba on March 26, the West Bromwich Albion defender still has enough energy to feature for his club, and earn a personal lift above both Mikel and Etebo in the Championship player ratings.
This is despite rave reviews following Mikel’s handful of appearances for Middlesbrough, where he has twinkled in only his first full month of action, since his arrival as a free agent at the end of January.
Mikel terminated his contract with Tianjin Teda of China in order to make a return to England, which has paid off, as several accolades are already trailing him, sequel to his immediate impact, mercurial form and leadership qualities with Boro.
Etebo, who was one of Nigeria’s most exciting players at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, has also stepped up his efforts at Stoke City, where he is back in the mainframe after several weeks out due to a dip in form.
A red card along the line did not help matters for the former Warri Wolves, CD Fereinse of Portugal and Las Palmas of Spain star, but top form of recent from him and Mikel has not been deemed fit to see them Championship Power Rankings best 50, which is this week topped by Brentford Town’s Said Benrahma.
Brentford were among six clubs to play on Tuesday after weekend ties, with Benrahma netting a hat-trick in a 5-1 win against Hull on Saturday before his side suffered a 2-0 loss at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.
It means Mikel and Etebo will have to do m uch better to enter slots in the Sky Sport Power Rankings methodology, which reflects a player’s performance by awarding points for 34 stats, based on performances over the past five Championship matchdays and the accumulative chart.
