Efe Ambrose will step up his fitness Friday playing for Derby County’s under-23s against Liverpool.
The Rams take on Liverpool in a Premier League Two Division One fixture at the Rams’ Moor Farm training ground, kick off 2pm.
The 30-year-old defender played an hour in the under-23s’ 8-1 win over Bristol City recently.
He signed a deal until the end of the season having left Scottish Premiership club Hibernian in January.
His last first-team game was for Hibernian at the end of December and he has been working on his fitness.
Ambrose has been brought in as competition and cover for the first-choice centre-back pairing of Richard Keogh and Fikayo Tomori.
The Nigerian international made more than 200 appearances in Scottish football during his time with Hibs and Celtic, who he joined in 2012 from Israeli side Ashdod.
He has Champions’ League experience from his time at Celtic and won four Scottish Premiership titles, a Scottish Cup and League Cup. He also won the Scottish Championship with Hibs.
England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been pencilled in to feature for Liverpool.
The midfielder is set to make his return to action after being sidelined since the Reds’ Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma last April, in which he sustained a serious knee injury.
