Kenyan Football Official Confirmed In Ethiopian Airline Crash

A Kenyan football official, Hussein Swaleh has been confirmed among 157 passengers who died in an Ethiopian Airlines plane that crashed on Suncday, shortly after taking off from Addis Abeba airport.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) disclosed that Swaleh, chairman of the body’s Lower Eastern branch, was returning from Egypt where he served as match commissioner in the CAF Champions League game between Ismaili and TP Mazembe on Friday.

Local officials in Ethiopia confirmed that there were 149 passengers and eight crew members on board of the Boeing 737-8 MAX plane when it hit the ground six minutes after departure, leaving no survivors.

FKF stated in a solemn message: “Football has indeed lost a dedicated and hardworking individual that lived the game. We wish all those who have been affected solace in this trying time.

“Football Kenya Federation wishes to express its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of FKF Lower Eastern branch chairman Hussein Swaleh and all victims of the Ethiopian Airlines Flight B-737-800Max that crashed on Sunday, shortly after take-off.”
